Ballard has seen
substantial growth and change over the past few years and that trend
doesn't seem to be stopping anytime soon. New mixed use condo projects
and new townhouses are going up throughout the area. Originally put on
the map for lumber and fishing, Ballard holds the small-town atmosphere
in many parts, but is also attracting Seattle's youth due to the
downtowns dynamic mix of restaurants, unique shops, night life, and
music scene. A large amount of development has occurred over the past
decade with more on the horizon, but Ballard has been able to hold onto
its roots as well, honoring its Nordic heritage with the Nordic
Heritage Museum and Norwegian Constitution Day Parade and remains a
thriving fishing community.

Along with the shops and
restaurants, Ballard also has great attractions in the Shilshole
Marina, Golden Gardens Park, and Hiram M. Chittenden Locks, a Carl S.
English Botanical Garden. Attracting tens of thousands of visitors a
year, these places offer great places during the day and evenings. The
West facing Golden Gardens is one of the greatest places in Seattle for
a sunset.
Consisting of mainly craftsman and Tudor style homes
with modern homes on the rise as well, Ballard offers an
affordable place for home buyers who want to be near the city. It may
not be the best place for a commuter as Ballard is not on any major
freeways, but with easy access to downtown, Ballard is very desirable
for city dwellers. |
